My kid could do that

I spent part of last summer in Sheffield collaborating with a schoolteacher friend on a project we designed to get children aged 10-14 at the Chaucer School in the Parson Cross area of the city interested in photography.

Other than taking comedy Facebook pictures, very few of the children had any previous experience of photography. Taking their cue from my disconnections series of minimalist images, the children were asked to keep things simple and focus on colours, shapes, patterns and textures. 3 fabulous and entertaining days later and cameras were being enthusiastically added to Christmas lists.

Below are some of the images that were produced by the children. More are included on a website documenting the project at www.chaucerproject.co.uk. Some were also uploaded to a specially created Flickr site without any mention that the photographs had been taken by children, and have since generated lots of hugely positive comments.
